Nearly two months ago, Neil Levy wrote on Flickers of Freedom a very interesting post about the relationship between consciousness and moral responsibility. In the subsequent discussion, some comments asked about this relationship in folk intuitions about free will and moral responsibility. In this new post on Philotropes, I describe the results of experiment I ran a year ago about this very same question. These results seem to suggest that being conscious of one's own motive is not a necessary condition for moral responsibility.
