During the summer Thomas initiated a discussion about starting a Society for Empirical and Experimental Philosophy. I was just wondering what ever came of that.

I was just wondering the same thing.

Since there seems to be a great deal of interest in having a Society for Empirical and Experimental Philosophy, we simply need a small group of people to volunteer to put it together. They would need to check with the APA to see what must be done to become officially recognized by them as a society that can host group sessions at APA meetings. We might also consider having a website.
Any volunteers? I might be willing to help.

I think it would take, basically, a committed cat-herder to be Sec-Treas -- someone to do the forms, but more than that, have a continuing commitment to rustle up speakers for APA group sessions, etc.
One or two people involved with this blog have been excellent cat herders in the past, but I don't want to name names so as not to put them on the spot....

Since I have already worked on a draft of the constitution, etc., I will happily volunteer my cat-herding services after the new year. I should have some free time in January. So, when the time rolls around, I will post a call for volunteers. Since I will also be at the Philly APA, I will try to track down some information concerning the formation of groups/societies.

Oh, I should have mentioned that getting the society off the ground is the easy part. The pain in the ass part is organizing the meetings for the APA, doing calls for papers, lining up referees/commentators, etc. At the end of the day, I suspect that the time drain of the latter has provided us with a disincentive for doing the former. Of course, the two are totally dissociable, so I will work on getting SEEP (assuming this is what we'd like to call it) off the ground first and we can iron out the details for meetings downstream.

Thomas,
Thanks for volunteering to get the ball rolling on SEEP. I can help out with the program for the first meeting.
